How the Drug Works:

Used properly, mixtures with electrolytes, water, and sugar prevent dehydration (fluid loss) or achieve rehydration and maintain strength and a feeling of well-being. They contain sodium, chloride, potassium, and bicarbonate to replace depleted electrolytes and restore acid-base balance and sugar, which aids in sodium and water absorption by the body.

Uses:

For maintenance of water and electrolytes following corrective intravenous therapy for severe diarrhea, for maintenance to replace mild-to­moderate fluid loss when food and liquid intake are discontinued, and for the restoration of fluid and electrolytes lost in diarrhea and vomiting in infants and children.

Precautions:

Do not use in the following situations: diarrhea, severe and continuing kidney disease, severe obstructed bowel

Guidelines for Use:

  • Dosage will be individualized. FollOw the package directions or your doctor's instructions when using these products.

  • Use only the recommended volumes to avoid excessive electrolyte ingestion.

  • Do not mix with other electrolyte-containing liquids (eg, milk, fruit juices, sports drinks).

  • Store opened solutions in the refrigerator. Discard any remaining solution after 48 hours.
