Isoxsuprine Information - Drug Interactions, Uses and Benefits
Type of Drug:
Peripheral vasodilator (relaxes blood vessels in skeletal muscles).
How the Isoxsuprine Product Works:
Isoxsuprine increases blood flow in skeletal muscle by relaxing and dilating (widening) blood vessels in these muscles.
Uses of the Isoxsuprine:
"Possibly effective" to relieve symptoms of disorders related to inadequate blood flow or blood supply to the brain and extremities (arms and legs). These disorders include: Vascular disease, Buerger disease, and Raynaud disease.
Unlabeled Uses: Occasionally doctors may provide is oxsuprine for painful menstrual periods and premature labor.
Precautions:
Do not use in the following situations: arterial bleeding immediately after childbirth
Pregnancy: Safety in pregnancy has not been established. Risks of fluid accumulation in lungs in pregnant women is increased. Lower amounts of calcium and glucose in the blood, lower blood pressure and poorly functioning intestines in newborns have resulted. Consult your doctor.
Drug Interactions:
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or planning to take any overthe-counter or prescription medications or dietary supplements with isoxsuprine. Doses of one or both drugs may need to be modified or a different drug may need to be prescribed.
Side Effects:
Every drug is capable of producing side effects. Many isoxsuprine users experience no, or minor, side effects. The frequency and severity of side effects depend on many factors including dosage, duration of therapy, and individual susceptibility. Possible side effects include:
Circulatory System: Decreased blood pressure; orthostatic hypotension (dizziness or lightheadedness when arising from a seated or lying position); rapid heartbeat; pounding in the chest (palpitations); chest pain.
Other: Severe rash; dizziness; nausea; vomitinq; stomach pain
Guidelines for Use:

Take exactly as prescribed.

Do not stop taking this medicine or change the dosage without checking with your doctor; this could have serious adverse effects.

Pounding sensation in chest (palpitations) and skin rash can occur. Notify your doctor if these symptoms persist.

Dizziness or weakness may occur after sudden changes in posture (eg, when rising from a lying position). This can usually be avoided by rising slowly or sitting upright for a few minutes before standing.

Store at controlled room temperature (59 0 to 86°F). Protect from moisture.
