Contact Lenses
Only a decade ago, people with certain visual impairments could not use anything but glasses to correct their sight. Today however, contact lenses address most vision defects that can be corrected by glasses, such as myopia, hypermetropia, astigmatism and presbyopia of different levels. This is thanks to a huge progress in research in the field of ophthalmology (science of eyes) only the last 15 years. This development of the vision correction instruments available on the market today has also meant many other improvements for contact lenses . Modern lenses are for example extremely soft and comfortable to the extent that the wearer very seldom notices them, apart from the improved sharpness of vision they give. Modern lens materials are also generally more breathable, which means the lenses let through more oxygen to the eye, causing less irritation and dryness. They are also often made of a high percentage of water, which make them compatible with the eye’s natural liquid. On the top of this, most modern contact lenses also protect the eyes from dangerous UV rays, even to a larger extent than regular sunglasses, since they cover the entire field of vision, not just the area in front of the eyes.
